We celebrated World Press Freedom Day with a promise to match up to $25,000 in donations to the Freedom of the Press Foundation. During the month of May, generous donors contributed $25,059 – together with our $25,000 donation, that’s a total of $50,059 raised!
Whether through donations, spreading awareness, or volunteering, protecting public interest journalism is a community effort and we want to thank everyone for helping support the work of the Freedom of the Press Foundation.
But we’re not done yet.
For the next ten days, we’re committing to match an additional $5,000 in donations – so double your impact and make a contribution today!
All of the funds will support the foundation’s work, including protecting the rights of journalists and providing them with digital security training. Donations also enable continued development of SecureDrop, an important service allowing journalists to safely receive documents from anonymous sources. We’re grateful to the Freedom of the Press Foundation for working so hard to protect and empower journalism worldwide.
In addition to matching donations and supporting the Freedom of the Press Foundation’s mission, we also support journalists directly: our 1Password for Journalism initiative offers free 1Password accounts to qualifying reporters.
Journalists often don’t have the luxury of anonymity online, making them a target every time they publish a sensitive or controversial story. With 1Password, they can protect their online life with stronger passwords, while also keeping files, notes, and contact information safe from prying eyes. As 1Password works on all devices, reporters can securely access their information from anywhere.
By using Travel Mode, journalists can also temporarily remove information from 1Password while crossing borders – keeping sensitive information away from border security and unwarranted searches. And if their information is leaked in a data breach, Watchtower will notify them.
You can apply now for a 1Password for Journalism membership.
We believe in a free press and an open Internet and are proud to be supporting journalists and the Freedom of the Press Foundation. Thank you for being a part of making the world a little bit safer. ❤️
