Celebrating Pride at 1Password: Reflection, community, and connection

At 1Password, we’re proud to celebrate Pride Month — as we have since the launch of our Pride Employee Resource Group (ERG) in 2021. These moments matter because they give us space to connect more deeply with one another and honor the stories and identities that make each of us unique. Pride Month is a beloved tradition at 1Password, where we celebrate the inclusive culture we’re committed to building together.

This year, against a backdrop of increasing challenges faced by the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, we approached our Pride Month programming with extra care and intention. We focused on creating space for reflection, support, and celebration, recognizing that Pride can carry different weight and meaning in moments like this.

We began the month with a peer support chat led by registered psychotherapist Christopher Shillington, offering members a safe space to reflect, meditate, and share what Pride means to them in today’s world. We also hosted a keynote session with Geo Soctomah Neptune, who’s a Two-Spirit educator, activist, Master Basketmaker, and drag artist from the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Motahkomikuk (Indian Township, Maine). Geo highlighted the interconnectedness of art, activism, and gender expression that together form the Two-Spirit identity. For many at 1Password, this was the first time hearing directly from a Two-Spirit person, and that’s exactly what makes these moments meaningful: amplifying voices and perspectives that aren’t always heard.

And of course, no Pride celebration would be complete without a bit of fun. We closed out the month with a community favorite: Drag Trivia! This event was a chance to gather, share some laughs, and build connections across the company. For many in the Pride community, these moments are not only joyful, but also affirming. They create space to show up authentically and connect to a broader community at work. And when people are supported and valued, they’re able to bring their full talents to the table — helping us work better together and deliver our best work.

That’s exactly what Pride ERG co-lead Ionas von Zezschwitz has experienced since joining 1Password in 2021:

“The Pride ERG has become a home for community, advocacy, support, and visibility. For me—and for many of our members—1Password is the first truly 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusive workplace we’ve experienced. The ability to show up to work as your full self is incredibly transformative, and our ERG is proud to help grow a culture where that sense of belonging is not just possible, but expected.”

The Pride ERG plays an active role year-round — not just during Pride Month — and leaders like Ionas work passionately to create an environment where everyone can feel a sense of belonging.

While our Pride Month celebrations continue to evolve each year, our commitment remains the same: to build a workplace where everyone feels seen, supported, and empowered to thrive. In addition to internal events, the Pride ERG also made a donation to OUTMemphis extending our impact beyond 1Password and continuing our support for queer communities year-round.

Happy Pride!
